China’s automobile industry started in 1950s and has made China one of the big car-making countries. The automobile standard parts industry has also burgeoned together with the automotive industry and created a trend of standardization that has achieved fruitful results. These seemingly insignificant parts have important and indispensable roles to play in the auto industry. “Standardization” is the key which makes these parts work and has received much attention from standard parts manufacturers. This article aims to introduce the standardization of automobile standard parts in China to readers in Taiwan and other regions so as to facilitate understanding, communications, exchanges and cooperation.
It is important to note that “standard parts” often refer to “standard fasteners” in China, but in the auto industry, “standard parts” cover a much broader range. In addition to standard fasteners, other standard parts or non-fasteners (such as pipe joints, rings…) and even parts that are nothing similar to fasteners are also considered standard parts. The same terms can mean different things in different industries or businesses so the definitions are not consistent. The article follows the definition of “standard parts” in the auto industry.
