Aridra: 15% of Auto Parts in Mexico Are Counterfeits
According to an investigation conducted by Aridra (Association of Auto Parts Importers, Retailers & Distributors in Mexico), the total sale of auto parts in Mexico reaches the scale of about USD10 billion, USD1.875 billion of which (15%) are counterfeited parts.
The counterfeited auto parts generally come from technicians during installation or crooked retailers. Data from Aridra show that the counterfeited products are mostly imported from China.
Lawyer Roberto Arochi says that the import of counterfeited auto parts 3 years ago totaled about 250 containers whereas there are 10 thousand containers now. Mexican Customs tracks down only 32 containers per year.
