Taiwan Fastener Exports to Japan Expected to Grow Due to Post-Disaster Reconstruction Demand
Taiwan fastener exports to Japan achieved over 64 thousand tons in 2011, up 12% over 2010 with an average price of USD3.407/kg. The results showed that the export volume to Japan did not fall in regard to the 311 earthquakes in Japan last year.
After the earthquake, the speed of the post-disaster reconstruction has been slow in Japan. Thus the fastener exports to Japan did not grow in particular and Taiwan fastener exports to Japan did not go up, either. However, since the post-disaster reconstruction has officially launched and been contracted out last fall, including the reconstruction and repair works for harbors, highways and railroads, the orders from Japan during October 2011 to March 2012 exhibited a 10% growth. The market insider indicated that Taiwan fastener exports to Japan have a promising prospect owing to the subsequent needs of fasteners after the startup of the reconstruction program in Japan.
