Nissan Motor and UK software firm Monolith have announced expanding their collaboration in AI to reduce physical vehicle testing and shorten new car development cycles. Previously, the two successfully applied AI to cut testing time for tightening chassis bolts on the Nissan Leaf EV, a technique now being extended to other models destined for Europe. Facing intense competition from Chinese manufacturers who can launch new models within 18 months, Emma Deutsch, head of Nissan's European Technical Center, emphasized the need to speed up vehicle launches. The AI technology has reduced the chassis bolt tightening test from 6 to 5 months, with hopes to further cut it to 3 months, aiming to shorten overall testing phases by 20%. Amid sales declines in the US and China, Nissan continues operational optimization and workforce adjustments, leveraging AI to boost competitiveness.
(Editorial note: Automotive fastener manufacturers can explore new fastener technologies and actively tap into carmakers' AI supply chain, offering process-level integrated solutions to accelerate new car development for automakers, thereby enhancing their own competitiveness and irreplaceability.)
