VIETNAM MAINTAINS POSITIVE GROWTH DESPITE PANDEMIC
Vietnam’s economy, despite Covid-19, has continued to showcase strong growth patterns leading investors to favorably consider the country as a solid investment destination.
The country was among the few economies to record net positive growth in 2020, at 2.9%. It is forecast to reach a 6.5% - 7% average growth target for 2021 – 2025, according to the 2021 – 2025 five-year plan approved by the Vietnam National Party Congress in February 2021.
Vietnam is set to become more selective in attracting FDI as it wants to move up the value chain from a low-cost labor destination to a center for hi-tech industry keeping the environment in mind. Thus, priority sectors after the pandemic in Vietnam are electricity, electronics, supporting industries, pharmaceutical manufacturing, digital technology, wind power, solar energy…
The manufacturing and processing is expected to remain the key driver of Vietnam’s economic growth, with the support by a further integration into global supply chains through the pursuit of trade pacts and export market diversification.
