Japan is the world’s second largest steel producing country next to China and one of the main steel export countries. 5 Japanese steel enterprises including Nippon Steel Corporation, JFE, Sumitomo Metal Industries, Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co., and Kobe Steel Ltd. are impacted after the earthquake hit 5 days ago. Kamaishi Plant, belonging to Nippon Steel, located in Northern Sendai City nearest earthquake region, is under severe influence. So far, we cannot go into the plant. According to the research, the plant has 600,000 tons of annual capacity for wire & rods. The plant has stopped production for repair.
