Japanese Daiichi Kogyo Rolls out a Nut with Double Fastening Strength Used for Resin
Daiichi Kogyo Co.,ltd. developed the "High Torque Press-in & Post-inserting Type SSOO Nut" with 1.5 folds or double strength used for resin. The special octagonal shape prevents the nut from idle spinning and damaging resin. The nut is also suitable for weaker resin like bio-plastic. It will be supplied to car makers.
Operators only have to heat up the nut to 200-350 Celsius, and then insert it into a pre-drilled hole on the resin product. As the special octagonal structure helps the resin enter gaps easily, the surrounding resin after insertion will melt with the heat and be fastened. Experiments proved the nut compared with knurled type has 76% more rotating torque and 18% more fall-off torque.
The lightweight trend of the automotive industry led to more use of resin components. Under this background, the use of bio-plastic increased but the weaker strength has led the automotive industry to demand high torque nuts that do not damage resin. The nut is patent-pending and has been partially used on car batteries.
