Bi-Mirth: Customer Continuity
Bi-Mirth Corporation was founded in 1986, and ever since then its mission has been to strive to be one of the top fastener manufacturers through quality, innovation, and expertise. It has evolved and expanded from a trade company in Taipei with only three employees to a manufacturing company based in Gangshan, Kaohsiung with its own forming, electroplating, coating, and packaging plant with approximately 200 employees. Approximately 70% of Bi-Mirth’s production is focused on long sized structural screws, and the remaining 30% contains special self-drilling and self-tapping screws. With the capacity of around 700 tons per month, it is important for Bi-Mirth to have a strong quality control team to ensure fastener quality. Bi-Mirth Corporation currently holds CE and ETA certifications for its European market, and the ICC certification for its American market.
Continuous Transformation: Introducing QuickDrill IV & Dual Decking Screw
Bi-Mirth is officially launching two new products at the start of 2017 – the QuickDrill IV and the Dual Decking Screw. What differentiates QuickDrill IV from the previous versions is its new nibs and “diamond teeth” design. The new nib design provides a clean finish on the wood surface. The “diamond teeth” bores a greater hole diameter after the drill point in comparison to a typical screw, which essentially emulates the effects of a Type 17 tip. The Dual Decking Screw contains both “diamond teeth” as well as the “reverse thread”. The two new parts help capture sawdust into the deck while preventing wood splits. However, as the word “dual” suggests in the product name, the main advantage for this item is that it can be applied in both hardwood and composite decking. This feature provides less margin of human error and more versatility. In addition to the new products, Bi-Mirth is also considering to expand its horizons to different types of wires. Its main material for production is carbon steel at the moment, but according to Tom Shih from Bi-Mirth Corp, “We have given some thought to branch out and develop new types of composite fasteners using other materials such as stainless steel and aluminum, and we’re also thinking about new designs for timber concrete fasteners.”
Coating Plant Renovation
Another major change that Bi-Mirth has faced this year is the opening of a new coating plant along with the arrival of two new coating machines produced by SIDASA Spain. The new equipment increases coating efficiency without compromising coating consistencies. Since the coating facility is the last stop for manufacturing, Bi-Mirth has also invested in an advanced quality control lab for testing structural wood screws. The laboratory contains equipment that can conduct tests in accordance to the latest standards in the EU; for instance, EN 10666, EN 409, EN 6507-01.
Stepping Forward Together
Research and development have always been a focus in Bi-Mirth Corporation’s philosophy. It is essential to grow and adapt in order to stay relevant and close to the market. This flexibility has allowed Bi-Mirth to pursue a variety of opportunities that the company has never envisioned in the past. “For Bi-Mirth, it is important to understand what customers need and to give them professional advice when necessary. As a manufacturer, we know not only how to produce fasteners, but also their respective applications and standards. Instead of following customers’ footsteps, we move forward together with them. We need to put ourselves in the customer’s perspective and really investigate what it is that they need in order to develop, maintain, and sustain a successful business relationship. With the marketing being more saturated and competitive, this is what we do to stay”, concluded Tom Shih.
