The full collar nylon insert lock nut design was brought to the U.S. from Sweden in 1927 by Carl Arthur Swanstrom. The technology has been very successful and much has been written about this locking system, which is used on a wide range of applications and nut configurations.
This lock nut style remains premier among its peers because of these benefits:
· Non-destructive to mating threads and coatings
· Allows almost unlimited reusability
· The locking element is self-contained
· No locking insert mass is lost upon repeated installations
· Pre-load friction isn’t usually required to retain its position on a mating male thread
· It’s impervious to vibration from high frequency harmonics to heavy shocks
· Affordable and available in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials
