Trip to Tibet, the Place to Find My Calling - William Liao
by William Liao, President of Fastener World Inc.
The June this year happened to be the month when the annual Fastener Expo Shanghai was given. I took this chance and led 13 good friends from Taiwanese fastener industry to have a week-long trip to Tibet. As the Bureau of Tourism in Tibet only allowed for 15 persons at most in each group applying for entrance into Tibet, 14 of us carried our backpacks and went on our road to Tibet, the Ridge of the World, located on the plateau at an average altitude of 4,000 meters. During this trip, we worshipped in Potala Palace, left our footprints in Jokhang Temple, took the world’s greatest plateau train line that connects Qinghai and Tibet, and appreciated the wonders of Yamdroktso Lake and fabulous glaciers. Surrounded by the beauty of Tibet (usually called “Home for the Soul”), we left behind the discomfort from altitude sickness and admired the courage of Tibetans living with joy and content in the land that is not rich in many resources. Although this trip was uneasy and exhausting, it was still worthy of experiencing after having been so busy in work. And I have to say, this should truly be “a voyage of the heart” that I will never regret.
