TFTA Training Session
Two Practical Programs with Enthusiastic Attendance
by Tanya Shih, Fastener World Inc.
Taiwan Fastener Trading Association (TFTA) currently held a training session focused on “The Practice of PPAP” and “Fastener Standards & Testing Methods” for its members, which attracted lots of members to attend. In order to accommodate more attendees, TFTA Chairman Bill Chen lent a room in his company for the session held on July 1st and July 2nd and there were no empty seats. The session, with the attendance of TFTA Chairman Bill Chen, New TFTA Central Chapter President Ernie Lin and Secretary Chun-Zhong Hu, and cadre from TFTA management, was very successful.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is to ensure that the supplier can meet the manufacturability and quality requirements of the supplied parts to the customer. In order to ensure on-time delivery, more and more buyers will request PPAP documents, which are also used to ensure stable quality of manufactured products, when the production has reached a certain scale. The practice of PPAP can be a very professional training program, so TFTA invited Mr. Co-Tong Chang, the internationally accredited auditor to share his years of experience in helping companies getting the approval of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/TS 19649, ISO/IEC 17025, JIS, and CE. His in-depth explanation with examples did not only help newcomers have a general picture of the practice of PPAP, but also pointed out the part which operators may usually overlook.
There are many perspectives in the fastener industry for those industry players to learn from and many of these players may have been vexed by piles of standard books. However, if one cannot make the most use of these standard books or cannot understand what a symbol really means, understanding customers’ drawings will sometimes be very difficult. Another speaker Chen-Tze Wu, who has years of experience in the practice of fastener inspection, proposed the corresponding testing criteria for sizes, threads, mechanical properties, surface treatment, and sampling, which saved a lot of time for attendees to search related information like looking for a needle in a haystack.
These two practical training programs ended with applause of the attendees. The next TFTA training session is scheduled for Aug. 10th.
