Turkish Steel Producers Appeal to Their Government for Imposing Protective Measures Against Chinese Steel Imports
In the 1st quarter of 2015, the steel imports from China to Turkey were in a substantial increase. Based on this reason, Turkish steel manufacturing plants then appealed to their government for imposing protective measures against steel imports from China. Local Turkish steel plants said that the substantial increase in steel imports from China have caused material injury to the domestic steel industry, and if this scenario cannot be well controlled, China will be very likely to become the largest steel supply country for Turkey this year.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs of Turkey has launched antidumping investigations on hot rolled steel rolls imported from China, Russia, Japan, France, Ukraine, Romania, and Slovakia since this January. During the investigative period, some countries have been very discreet in their exports to Turkey while China continues to increase its exports to Turkey. As a result, the Turkish government may carry out some protective measures against steel imports from China.
