Taiwan Fastener Trading Association (TFTA) held a series of symposiums at Tainan Labor Recreation Center on Oct. 15th. The event ended successfully under the host of TFTA Chairman Bill Chen and Chief of Training Committee Ahung Chen. Ryan Murphy, technical manager of ETAS, was invited to lecture on the topic - Evolution Testing & Analytical Services: “How we will solve your problems together”. MIRDC project manager Can-Xun Zhang lectured on “Manufacturing Technology of Fastener Forging and Forming in Brief”. Southern Taiwan Industry Promotion Center (of National Sun Yat-Sen University) lectured on “New Cloud Service Marketing Strategy for Taiwanese Fasteners”. Shih-Tong Shuh, head of Department of Marketing and Distribution Management (of National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology), lectured on “How Do Material Makers Increase Added Values to Secure Their Distributing Routes”. These lectures consisted of 4 major issues for this event.
The EU is one of the largest markets for Taiwan’s fastener export, and therefore, Taiwanese companies pay much attention to fastener-related regulations and certifications in the EU. TFTA invited general manager Michael Keisner of ETAS (an inspection and analysis lab in the EU) as well as technical manager Ryan Murphy from Scotland to talk about the construction fastener regulations and the approaches to acquiring certificates. Ryan Murphy as the keynote speaker introduced the approaches to CE certificates including 1) via harmonized European Standards and 2) via ETAG/ETAD/CUAP certification.
Michael Keisner has over 30 years of experience in the construction and manufacturing industry. In 2000 he established Evolution Fasteners focusing on the fastener field and offering design and production service of construction fasteners. In 2012 he established ETAS, a UKAS-certified independent lab focusing on testing and offering cost-effective solutions such as consultation, certificate acquirement, and certificate documents for clients in the aerospace, medical, and military industries. With basic understanding of CE certification, Can-Xun Zhang talked on “Manufacturing Technology of Fastener Forging and Forming in Brief”, which was an extension from engineer Chang’s topic—“Fastener Category & Basic Identification” lectured in March at the Central District Chapter, as Can-Xun Zhang wanted the industry to know how to master competitiveness through materials and forming techniques. Last but not the least, professor Shih-Tong Shuh talking in a sense of humor stressed that “Product Orientation & Risk reduction in Transactions” critically depended on securing distribution routes. In the future, TFTA will continue to give thematic symposiums that help connect with the industry. Such events can be not only a way to aggregating knowledge but also provide an opportunity to social with industry partners.
