LISI AUTOMOTIVE Develops An Innovative Noncorroding Coating
Essential parts to vehicles’ safety, threaded fasteners are often the first hurt by corrosion. Solicitous of maintaining the activities of fastenings manufacturing, and their coating, in Europe, several players have decided to get together. Consequently was the IZAC project born (IZAC = acronym of Innovative Zinc Alloyed Coating), which is carried by LISI AUTOMOTIVE.
This project gathers a consortium of companies: Coventya, Zindel/Galvanoplast, LISI AEROSPACE and Safran. The aim of IZAC is to lead to the development of a new noncorroding protective system of fastening parts and mechanical components, in replacement of zinc-nickel coating. A new coating for automobile and aeronautic markets is born, from the combination of different solutions developed during the IZAC project, ready to be put on the market. It is a zinc-iron coating, with high iron content, combined with a conversion coat with low chromium content. The IZAC project integrates university researchers, formulation and coating application specialists, fastenings and cars manufacturers. This research program has been certified by the “Pôle Véhicule du Futur” of Alsace Franche-Comté. It also has received the support of the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and the Franche-Comté region.
