Fukushima's Radioactive Water Leak May Result from Loosened Bolts
According to Japan Kyodo News, regarding the 300 ton radioactive water leak from Fukushima First Nuclear Plant, TEPCO has conducted a dissenmbly investigation on the storage tanks. In the investigation report published on September 20, five loosened bolts were found on the junction plate under the tanks. TEPCO told, "This could be the cause for the leak," and a further investigation will follow. The leaking tanks are structured by steel plates. The bottom of the tanks consist of 5 steel plates, and the loosened bolts all locate within a 3 meter range. Besides the loosened bolts, TEPCO also found water-proof materials which peeled off (or will peel off) at 8 junctions of the bottom plates.
