Shanghai GM to Invest RMB7 Billion in Wuhan Factory
According to the construction project approval announcement by Hubei Environmental Protection Portal, Shanghai General Motors Co., Ltd. (Shanghai GM) will invest RMB7 billion in a passenger cars sector in Wuhan. It is estimated that after the completion of the construction, the annual output would achieve 300 thousand units.
Ad the joint venture between Shanghai Automatic Industry Corp. (Saic Motor) and the US General Motors Corp. (GM), Shanghai GM set up three production bases in Pudong Jinqiao, Yangtai Dongyue and Shenyang Beisheng, totally four CBU car plants and two powertrain factories, covering over 20 model series, such as Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac.
Accordingly, the new factory will be set up in Jiangxia, Wuhan with land area of 2.2 km², divided into two construction phases, including four workshops for stamping, car body, coating, and assembling, one parts distribution center (PDC), etc.
