An Overview of China Wire Rod Imports in 2011
China’s total imports of wire, rod and bar material in the first half of 2011 amounted to 773,000 tons, 5.4% lower on a YoY basis, among which the largest import category was wire, with the import volume of 360,700 tons, 4.8% higher on a YoY basis; the import volume of rod amounted to 219,400 tons, 2.4% higher on a YoY basis.
The item, wire <14mm, with the import volume of 217,600 tons and 19.49% higher on a YoY basis , accounted for the largest import volume in the wire category. The category with the largest import growth was hot-rolled thread steel wire rod coil, 38.73% higher on a YoY basis. The main import countires for wire are Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. As the major import items in the rod cateogry, the import volume of other hot-rolled alloy steel bar and rod and of other hot-rolled bar and rod not further worked amounted to 82,900 tons (a YoY growth of 8.91%) and 36.200 tons (a YoY growth of 6.57%) respectively. The main import countries are Japan and Taiwan.
